Love Hotel Chronicles

This series of photos was shot in one of Tokyo’s many love hotels, concentrated in the back alleys of Shibuya. Nicknamed “Love Hotel Hill”, this segment of Tokyo is one that is paradoxically anonymous and mainstream; attempted to be kept hidden but also a prominent part of Japanese culture.

Keeping this in mind, I decided to play on this paradox. What if I make fine art in the context of a place normally used for just the opposite, rented out in two hour time slots? This is a shoot intended to make these two ideas collide, to use context and content and create beauty where it is typically not found.
